Project Overview:

Developed a mobile app that offered a flexible, personalized fitness experience by combining virtual and in-person workouts to accommodate diverse lifestyles and schedules.

Validating the Problem?

Before diving into the next phase, let's make sure we're addressing a real problem. Many of us struggle to find a workout routine that really fits our lifestyle and preferences. It's like trying to find the perfect puzzle piece for our unique fitness journey. Let's validate and solve this puzzle together!

  • Our hectic schedules make it tough to stay consistent with fitness.

  • We often begin with enthusiasm but face challenges in sustaining a regular exercise routine due to reasons like fatigue, lack of motivation, or competing priorities.

  • Traditional gym routines may not suit people with unpredictable timetables.

  • Finding a fitness solution that seamlessly combines in-person and virtual elements can be a challenge for those seeking flexibility in their schedules.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct user research

  • Define the problem and provided insights to inform the ideation phase

  • Define personas, user journeys, empathy maps and user flows

  • Visual design of low-fi and high-fi wireframes, prototypes, and user testing

Tools Used:

Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop

Timeline:

4 weeks

EMPATHIZE

Let's Understand the user & the market

To really get what users want and need, I dug into how legal work gets done. I talked to people, looked at what bugs them, and checked out what other companies are doing. This includes User Interviews, Creating an Empathy map, identifying themes, developing Persona, and Competitor Analysis.

Qualitative Research: Interview Questions

  1. What are the primary frustrations users face in their current fitness routines?

  2. How do users prioritize between gym workouts and home-based exercises?

  3. What specific features or functionalities do users consider essential in a fitness app?

  4. In what ways do users seek motivation and support in their fitness journeys?

  5. How do users manage their time and prioritize fitness within their daily schedules?

Pain-Points
Persona Development

Based on insights from my research, survey findings and user interviews, I developed a persona to represent our target users.

Empathy-Map

Crafted an empathy map based on thorough user research, capturing user experiences, emotions, and needs.

Competitor's Analysis

Conducted a thorough competitor analysis, systematically evaluating and comparing key elements such as the Unique selling point, best features, design and content, and the missing gaps during the experience of each competitor’s app as a new user and a returning user.

My key competitors are 8Fit, a Berlin-based Online fitness app, and Apple Fitness+, a technology company that provides indirect fitness subscriptions to their iPhone customers.  8Fit is a direct competitor, and Apple fitness+ is an indirect competitor to my fitness app.

  • 8 Fit is a health and fitness app offering efficient workouts, customized meal plans, and self-care guidance to users united by the desire to feel better inside and out. It offers more than 6 languages to access. It’s a direct competitor to my fitness app.

  • It markets itself as an Online platform for fun, varied workouts, healthy & personalized meals, sleep meditation, and whole-body health.

  • Apple Fitness+ is a subscription service that gives you access to trainer-guided workout videos on your compatible iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. It comes with a diverse range of language access which makes it easy for customers to use the app. It’s an indirect competitor to my fitness app.

  • Only Apple product user is welcome at Apple Fitness+. Users subscribe and access thousands of video and audio workouts —from HIIT to Yoga. And guided meditations.

TEST & ITERATE
Usability Studies:

Conducted usability testing with five participants to assess the prototype, assigning them straightforward tasks.

The insights gained from the testing informed the design changes made for the final iteration.

Task #1: To fill in the fitness plan details.

Outcome: It was observed that 4 out of 5 participants (took it long to fill in the details). This means that (for most users it is not easy to fill in all the details in short).

Based on the theme that: (the filing details is a lengthy process), an insight is: (users need minimum details to fill).

Task#2: Select the right plan.

Outcome: It was observed that 4 out of 5 participants (unable to find their choice of package). This means that (the list of packages is not defined properly).

Based on the theme that: (users are unable to find the right package for them), an insight is: (list of packages should defined properly).

After
Task#3: Explore the Free trial offers

Outcome: It was observed that 3 out of 5 participants (confused with the "Try Now" button and the Free trial option). This means that (the button is not descriptive).

Based on the theme that: (users are not directly getting to see free trial offers), an insight is that ("Try Now" button should defined properly) and thus, I elevated it to the top of the screen to ensure it is the first element users notice.
